Google Takeout Instructions

**We highly recommend that you do this procedure at home so your archive
can be downloaded to your home computer. If you don’t have a home computer and
choose to use a school computer in the library, you will need to have a USB Flash Drive
large enough to store the downloaded archive file in order to complete the process.**

  1. Make sure you are logged into Chrome with your account. Click the following link to take you to the Google Takeout page:

  • You can do the archive steps on your chromebook, but you need to do the actual download/save on a personal home computer. Or you can do the whole takeout process on your home computer. If you choose to download the archive at school on a desktop computer in the library, please make sure you have a USB Flash Drive large enough to store the downloaded archive file.

  1. Select the Google products you would like to include in your Archive by ticking the checkboxes on the right hand side of the screen. If you’ve never used a feature, if you don’t want to save anything from a feature, or if you don’t know what the feature is, go ahead and uncheck it. That will help make the process go faster and make the file size smaller.

  1. For each product, you can edit the parameters by clicking on the tiny gray arrow to the left of the check box. For example, in Drive, you can choose to export all files and folders or only selected ones. Once you have finished editing the parameters of all the products you want to archive, click the blue Next button at the bottom left.

  1. Click the blue Create Archive button.

  1. You will be taken to a new page that displays the progress of your archive. The process may take a few minutes to a few hours depending on the amount of files you have chosen to export. Once the archive is complete, you will receive an email notification that contains the download link.

  1. On a personal home computer, log into Chrome with your school email account and follow the directions in the email to download/save your archive.

You can start the Archive on your chromebook, but you will need to save the download on a home computer.

If you have to use a desktop computer at school, you need to save the file to a usb drive.

The Google TakeOut process needs to be done just

prior to, or immediately after, your graduation date!

A few weeks after you graduate, your school account will be deactivated and you will no longer have access to your school documents or to your school email account. If you think you might use any of your high school documents as reference notes for college assignments or as examples of your prior work, you will need to archive and download the items in your school Google account before the account is deactivated in June/July. I cannot stress the importance of doing the TakeOut process now in case you need your documents and notes later on.

If in doubt, just do it!!
